In 1916 a small band of armed insurrectionists declared Ireland a Republic. See the marks left by this violent battle, known as the Easter Rising, on a walking tour of Dublin with the authors of a historical guide book on the event.
On Easter Monday, 1916, 1,600 men, women and children went out into the streets to fight for an independent Ireland. The battle raged for six days and resulted in the destruction of many parts of central Dublin. The executions of the rebel leaders by the British army awakened a generation to the cause of Irish freedom.
Let historians Lorcan Collins and Conor Kostick, authors of The Easter Rising, take you to the sites of the 1916 Rebellion and teach you about the event that precipitated the formation of the Irish Republic.
