The development of Dundalk began in 1740. In Church Street, the Anglican Church of St Nicholas was rebuilt in 1707 and the transepts were added in the 19C. The Doric style Courthouse is located to the south. At Roden Place, the elaborate porch-screen leading to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, is modelled on King's College Chapel in Cambridge. Louth County Museum houses a fine exhibition of local history.
