Ennis is the administrative centre of County Clare. A stroll through its narrow, winding streets will reveal countless images of the past and memories of a bygone era, such as the West Clare Railway steam train, immortalised in the song by Percy French Are You Right There, Michael, Are You Right ?, which is mounted on a plinth near the station. The line was closed in 1961 and the station is no longer used except for freight transport and buses.
