Ilnacullin
Ilnacullin
: Michelin's recommendations
Ilnacullin (15 acres), also known as Garinish Island, lies in Glengarriff Harbour. In the early 20C it was turned, by the English landscape gardener Harold Peto, into a meticulously planned garden for Annan Bryce, MP. Italianate formality and Classical pavilions contrast wonderfully with the austere mountain backdrop and with the lush planting of exotic species, which bloom all year because of the mild climate and the garden's protected position. A path leads to the Martello Tower (41m), the highest point of the island.
