Fort : Michelin's recommendations
Its construction (1630-1650) was intended to oversee the main roads in the country. Charles II declared Hillsborough a royal fort. It forms a square that measures 82 m on each side, with a lanceted bastion on each corner for lateral artillery attacks. Digs have revealed that the central moat was built in the place of a circular trench that may have been dug between the 5 and 10C.
