The history of this city, originally named Neidin is related here, along with that of its buildings, the story of the nun of Kenmare and the suffering endured during the Great Famine. There are also some samples of old Kenmare lace on exhibition.

Visitors can see a demonstration of lacemaking. They can also buy lace based on designs by the nuns made by a local co-operative.
