This Catholic church was built in 1861 in neo-Gothic style. It is located on the southern fringe of the old Irish town. The 85m spire, completed in 1883, is the tallest in Ireland. The earliest mention of a church on this site was in 1205, when Bishop Donatus O'Brien founded the chapel.
