Castle Grounds Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Spenser is said to have written part of his allegorical poem The Faerie Queene here between 1552 and 1599. The gardens are set on both sides of the castle entrance, known as Riding Gate. The lower garden, also known as the Pleasure Grounds, dates from the mid-19C, though the yew-lined walk is somewhat older. During the summer the gardens reach their pinnacle of beauty.
