A war memorial stands o the central square, The Diamond, where the town hall once stood. Each of the four major roads that lead from it head towards the four main gates. Shipquay Street, one of the steepest shopping streets in the British Isles, has several large buildings and basement bars. Several fine buildings line Bishop's Street Within, including that of the Irish Society, a noble Georgian style construction (1764).
