The two highlights in this park are Mount Scrabo, formed by a layer of volcanic lava that covers and protects the underlying sandstone, and Scrabo Tower. Erected in 1857 in memory of the third marquis of Londonderry (1778-1854), it contains an exhibition on the park - geology, first colonies, fauna and flora - and the History of Strangford Lough, an audio-visual presentation. From the top (122 steps), the view is panoramic.
