Quoile Castle is a late-16C tower house. The south corner collapsed in 1977, revealing on the ground floor two vaulted rooms with loopholes (openings for firing cannons without being seen). The Visitor Centre gives details of local history and the wildlife (many species of birds thrive here). The road ends at the steamboat quay, built in 1837 by David Ker as part of an unsuccessful attempt to establish a paddle-steamer service to Liverpool.
