This small resort was laid out by Alexander Nimmo, who encouraged his Scots countrymen to settle here. On the south side there is a craftsman's village, part of an Industrial Development Authority programme. Malachy Kearns' studio is well known for the manufacture of goatskin-head drums (bodhrán), used in traditional music.
