Famine Museum
: Michelin's recommendations
The Famine Museum, in the stable yard, houses a comprehensive and detailed exhibition based on State archives and the Strokestown Estate Records for the famine years, used by Cecil Woodham-Smith in compiling her book The Great Hunger. The exhibition covers the history of the family and the estate, and compares conditions in the mid-19C with those in the Third World in the 20C.
