Patterson's Spade Mill : Michelin's recommendations

This unique sole-survivor of the water mills used to manufacture spades was built in 1919. Five generations of Pattersons worked in the mill until 1990. A tour of the mill shows the various stages in the traditional manufacture of spades, entirely handmade by two craftsmen: the furnace to heat the metal ingot, the sloping sledgehammer to shape the metal plate before tempering and sharpening, the riveting of the plate to the handle and, finally, painting.
