The figure of a Dominican, on Dominic Street, by local sculptor Noel Fitzgibbon, stands in front of an arcade carved by local apprentices between 198 and 1988, in the style of the original abbey, which was founded in 1243 by John Fitzgerald and destroyed by Cromwell's troops in 1652. The current Dominican church, on Rock Street, dates from 1861, when the Dominican order was returned to Tralee.
