Bective Abbey : Michelin's recommendations
These impressive ruins lie in a field on the west bank of the River Knightsbrook. The abbey, one of the first Cistercian houses in Ireland, was built in 1150 by the King of Meath, Murchad O'Maolsheachlainn, and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. Little remains of these 12C buildings. The cloisters, the tower and the main hall in the south wing date from the 15C, when the buildings were altered and fortified.
