South of Dublin, the Wicklow Mountains offer nature lovers spectacular views of mountain peaks, lakes, waterfalls, open moorland and verdant valleys, some landscaped into elegant parks. The rolling heights are covered in peat bog where rivers form wide, shallow, treeless corridors. On the hardest schist they form narrow wooded gorges like Dargle Glen, Devil's Glen and Glen of the Downs. The Vartry Reservoir provides water for the city of Dublin.
