This long sandy beach (8km) was used by David Lean in his 1968 film, Ryan’s Daughter. It has a monument commemorating Roger Casement (1864-1916), who landed here from a German submarine with a cargo of weapons for the Easter Uprising rebels. He was soon recognised, arrested and executed.
