At the castle’s heart is its huge keep, a fine example of a fortified dwelling. The main draw is the Blarney Stone just below the parapet at the top of the building, which reputedly gives the gift of the gab to those who kiss it. Easier said than done, given the ungainly position required in order to get to it… With its conical-roofed corner turrets, Blarney Castle House (1870) is Scots Baronial in style. Its attractive French-style gardens and its avenues offer fine views over the lake.
