This was the main residence of the O'Connor clan, who controlled a large part of north Kerry. The castle, formerly located on an island, was destroyed by Cromwell's forces in 1649. One of the towers is now a pigeon loft. A spiral staircase leads up to the tower top (29 m) which commands views over the entire Shannon Estuary.
