Before and during the Second World War, the small port of Foynes, in the Shannon Estuary, was a seaplane base. The old terminal building now houses an air and sea museum with numerous models, photographs and flight logs. The radio and weather room, with its original equipment still in working order, provided early information for the Irish Weather Department.
