Furness Abbey : Michelin's recommendations

In 1127, the order of Savigny settled in a remote site in Furness and was attached to the order of Cîteaux. The ruins of the abbey, in red sandstone, are in an isolated valley. The walls of the transept and choir and the western tower have virtually kept their original height. In the southern wall of the sanctuary, four pews and a lavabo remain. The vestibule and the capitulary room, which date back to the mid-13C, show simple Cistercian elegance.
