Giant’s Causeway

At the foot of cliffs, the causeway extends out to sea like a sloping pavement. It is divided into three separate sections by erosion: Lower, Middle and Upper Basalts. The columns themselves are cleaved horizontally forming convex and concave sufaces. The unusual ones have been given their own names. The Giant’s Gate is a natural opening which interrupts the causeway’s sequence of sloping columns. To the east, beyond Port Noffer, the 12m-high columns of the Organ may be seen among the cliffs.
