A rich habitat for sea birds, Horn Head has high cliffs (180m) on its north coast. To the southwest lies McSwyne’s Gun, a blow hole where the ocean bursts upwards. The narrow road offers fine views west towards the islands of Inishbofin, Inishdooey and Inishbeg with Troy beyond; Sheephaven bay to the east with the Rosguill peninsula in the background, the capes of Melmore and Malin Head to the northeast and, inland, the mountains of Muckish and Errigal.
