The 500 ha park stretches on either side of the River Shimna, an excellent salmon fishing river flowing from the northwest foothills of the Mountains of Mourne. Walking trails (1.6 km to 14.5 km) allow visitors to explore the azalea walk, arboretum, the waterfowl enclosure on the lake, waterfall, stretches where salmon leap, mill races, a dam on the river, the old bridge (1786), the hermitage, the Clanbrassil barn from around 1757, the Gothic gateway (1786) and the barbican gateway (1780).
