The White Island, an ancient religious site, stretches out into the sea. In the large enclosure of a monastery that pre-dates he Norman conquest, the remains of a 12C church stand with a fine romanesque gate. The eight stone statues backed against the northern wall are Christian, but their original function is still not clear. They probably date back to the 9 or 10C and were used in the 12C church as building blocks.
