A red gatehouse marks the entrance to the estate which at the time provided the oak for the ceiling in Westminster Palace in London. The house, built in 1600, is one of the rare examples of an Irish long house. For greater privacy, a passage was added on the north side, together with a new staircase in the early 18C. In 1884, a portico was added to the door at the back of the building and it subsequently became the main entrance.
