This former Roman colony, founded in 303 BC, is located 50km south of L'Aquila. Excavations have uncovered the remains of a basilica, a forum, baths, a covered market and an amphitheatre. The interesting Chiesa di San Pietro (Church of St Peter) overlooks the archaeological site.
