Altilia Saepinum Interesting : Michelin's recommendations

Bibendum

This small town in the Molise region, built in the 17C with plundered stone, lies 50km south of Campobasso. The town is worth a visit for the ruined Roman city of Saepinium in its centre, which was founded by the Samnites, then subsequently occupied by the Romans. The latter made the town a municipality and built a city wall with four fortified gates and 25 towers.

  • Two towers, which Tiberius dedicated to his brother Drusus, frame this gateway at the end of the decuman. It takes you to the town centre and the well-preserved western section of the perimeter wall.
