Arona : Michelin's recommendations
Arona owes its development to its location on the southern shore of Lake Maggiore. The town is not only a port for ferry services across the lake, but also a major railway centre and one of the region's busiest towns. This traditional stronghold of the famous Borromeo family is nonetheless a pleasant place to stay, having retained an attractive old district where the Palazzo del Podestà and Santa Maria church (housing a lovely polyptych by Gaudenzio Ferrari) are particularly worthy of note.
