As this obelisk shows, from the 1st century onwards the Benevento people echoed loud support for the cult of Isis. Legend has it that the Lombards succeeded in eradicating it by the 6C and in imposing Christianity. But this is not strictly true as the local chronicle have much layer reports of the faithful gathering around a walnut tree in the Valley of the Sabato river.
