Marked by a gallery in red Verona marble decorated with small slender columns and statues representing the Virtues, this octagonal building is a reconstruction of the original work by Giovanni da Campione (1340), which was erected at the back of the nave of Santa Maria Magiore Church. Judged too un-wieldy, it was demolished in 1660 and rebuilt in 1898 at its present site.
