This graceful small town at the confluence of the Rienza and Isarco rivers is typically Tyrolian in style and is famous for its dry and invigorating climate and long hours of sunshine. It was conquered by the Romans in 15 BC, was the seat of a Prince-Bishop from 1027 to 1803, became Bavarian from 1806 to 1813, and then Austrian until 1919, when it was annexed to Italy.
