The Basilica of Our Lady of Bonaria, patron saint of seafarers, is one of the symbolic spots of Cagliari. At the top of a staircase, the former sanctuary (1324-1326, reworked in the 16C) stands next to a pre-Roman and Roman necropolis. Don't miss the octogonal apse chapel and the wooden statue of Our Lady of Bonaria presiding over the high altar. Since the 18C, the sanctuary has been flanked by the new basilica, which has a Latin cross layout and lines typical of the Piedmontese Baroque style.
