During the 19C, the wealthy inhabitants of Nuoro would make the long, tiring journey to this attractive bay for the summer. The small fishing village here gradually developed into the main resort on the Golfo di Orosei, to the east of the national park which links this coast to the Gennargentu mountains. The beaches to the south of Cala Gonone can be accessed via pleasant footpaths, by boat or rubber dinghy. The most impressive part of the coast lies between Cala Sisine and Cala Biriola.
