Castelfranco Veneto : Michelin's recommendations

This pleasant citadel, surrounded by moats, was the birthplace of Giorgione (1477-1509), one of the greatest Italian painters. During his short life, Giorgione painted about twenty masterpieces, including the magnificent and enigmatic Tempest in the Accademia museum in Venice. The artist’s work had a profound influence on Italian painters such as Titian, who was his pupil, Giovanni Bellini and Palma Vecchio, as well as on European art as a whole.
