The painting of the Virgin and Child between Saint Francis and Saint Liberal by Giorgione (One of the few which art critics have unanimously attributed to him) dates from the first period in the painter's career and already demonstrates the fusion in Giorgione's work between figures and nature, the latter becoming a visibly central theme in his paintings, and the spirit of his characters radiated it.
