Cuma
: Michelin's recommendations
Founded in the 8C BC, this Greek colony (ancient Cumae) once influenced the whole Phlegrean region, including Naples, and reached the height of its glory under the tyrant Aristodemus. However, the town began to decline after its capture by the Romans in 334 BC, and in AD 915 it was pillaged by the Saracens. Visitors have access to the ruined acropolis, and, in the lower town, the remains of an amphitheatre, a temple and baths.
