This castle, the oldest sections of which date back to 8C has been subject to many modifications. The lower castle is by the Angevins, whilst the upper castle is the work of the Aragonais.

At the top you will see the tomb of the Roman consul Lucius Munatius Plancus, who was one of Cesar's comrades-in-arms and who founded the colonies of Lugdunum (now Lyon), Augusta Raurica (now Augst, near Basel).
