Island of Ischia

Island of Ischia

By car, 15 km, 1 day

Ischia is undoubtedly less world-famous than its neighbour, Capri... This is unfortunate because the island, famous for its vegetation, landscapes, light and thermal waters, is full of charm, which is enhanced by fewer crowds and is overlooked by its Aragonese Castle. It has small, charming ports (like Sant' Angelo), villages unspoilt by tourism, or fine beaches, which justify that you should join the many Neapolitans who embark for the Green Island in Summer.

Architecture, castles and historic districts

Ischia Ponte owes its name to the causeway built by the Aragonese, linking the mainland to the rocky islet of Ischia, on which sits the Castello Aragonese, a fine group of buildings comprising a castle and several churches. From the terrace of the bar of

Mont Epomeo   Worth a journey Worth a journey Worth a journey

Fontana 80070 Barano d'Ischia
Nature and gardens

The residents of Fontana have learnt a good trick. They hold their donkeys by the reins as they wait for the bus. The donkeys can easily take you to the top of Mount Epomeo (but rest assured you can also climb up the path on foot), with its narrow tufa peak reaching a height of 788. From there the panorama over the island and the gulf of Naples is magnificent.

The belvedere commands a breathtaking view of the site of Sant'Angelo, the beach and the peninsula.
