Lecce Recommended Recommended : Michelin's recommendations

Known as Lupiae in Roman times, Lecce was later favoured by the Normans who made the town the capital of the Terra d'Otranto region instead of Otranto. The town enjoyed a golden age between the 16C and 18C, a period which saw the construction of many Renaissance, Rococo and Baroque monuments. It is the Baroque style which dominates, earning the city the nickname of ""Baroque Florence"", and giving it the appearance of a magnificent stage set when lit up at night.
