This vibrant square in the centre of the old town is dominated by the statue of the Patron Saint of the town who occupies one of the two columns that mark the end of the Appian way. It is bordered on its south side by the ruins of the old amphitheatre. In addition, there is Saint-Mark's church built by the Venetian colony, and the antique Piazzi del Seggio which temporarily harbours a statue of Saint Joseph in paper mach,, the region's traditional material.
