This superb palace built by the Bonacolsi, later enlarged and embellished by the Gonzagua has two admirable elements. First, the apartments, with one room decorated with remarkable sinopie by Pisanello discovered in 1969 ; and second, in the Castel S. Giorgio, the extraordinary Conjugal bedroom, decorated by Andrea Mantegna in praise of the Gonzaga, whose well known traits include his masterful use of perspective and trompe-l'oeil.
