These rooms of the National Archaeological Museum house exquisite frescoes from Pompeii, Herculanum and Stabies. The diversity of styles and colours is testimony to the incredible richness of Roman decoration. There are splendid paintings inspired by mythology (the legends of Heracles and Ariadne), tragedy (Medea and Iphigenia) and epic poems, which are often framed by architectural perspectives and friezes depicting love, satyrs and Maenads.
