Oliena
: Michelin's recommendations
This village lies in an amphitheatre at the foot of the Foresta di Maccione mountain. It has preserved many of its traditions – whitewashed houses, traditional dress, filigree jewellery, Cannonau wine and desserts – and is still highly religious. Arcades and flights of steps lead off the narrow streets to numerous churches and chapels. Historically linked to the peaks of Supramonte, Oliena is an ideal base for walkers and hikers, with one of the footpaths leading up Punta Corrasi (1 463m).
