Padua
: Michelin's recommendations
Padua is a university town (its university is the second oldest in Italy after Bologna) and place of pilgrimage dedicated to St Anthony of Padua. Dominated for much of its past by Venice, Padua is also an important centre of art and is home to works by two Florentine artists: Giotto, who painted a magnificent cycle of frescoes here, and Donatello. It also contains works by the great local painter, Andrea Mantegna, who had a particularly innovative approach to perspective.
