In Padua, St Anthony is “the Saint” without need for further explanation! Built between 1232 and 1300, this basilica with eight Byzantine domes is reminiscent of San Marco in Venice. Inside, there are many works of art, including the chapel of the Saint, containing the arca di Sant’Antonio, by Tiziano Aspretti. Magnificent bas-reliefs in the chancel; the main altar is decorated with bronzes by Donatello, who created the Gattamelata equestrian statue standing in the square.
