The headland's name refers to Aeneas' mythical helmsman who fell into the sea and was buried here. The coast is dotted with caves, the most famous of which is the Grotta Azzura, named after its blue waters. The caves are hidden by the imposing promontory and in springtime the Palinuro primroses are in full bloom. Lovely beaches nearby.
