Piacenza
: Michelin's recommendations
Piacenza was originally built by the Romans at the end of the Via Emilia on the south bank of the Po. The town’s history is closely linked with that of its illustrious neighbour, Parma. Both towns belonged to the Lombard League, but were separated from the papal states by Pope Paul III, Alessandro Farnese, who gave them to his son. The Farnese ruled Piacenza until 1731, when the dukedom passed to the Bourbons. Although little known by tourists, Piacenza boasts a number of interesting sights.
