Porto Torres
: Michelin's recommendations
Occupying a superb position overlooking the Golfo dell’Asinara on a plateau which slopes gradually down to the sea, this town is the main port of northern Sardinia with ferry services to many destinations, including Marseille and Toulon. The modern town was built over the ruins of the old Roman colony, Turris Libisonis, which was founded in the 1C BC on a north-south axis. The town’s San Gavino basilica, standing on Monte Agellu, is one of the most important monuments on the island.
